Rated 4 out of 5 by gamepond from Not the quality of Zoo Tycoon, but not bad Really not a bad game, though I see it has gotten some bad reviews. I haven't had any trouble with my scenarios not being saved, maybe that is a glitch that was fixed in the version I got.

The main problem I've had is that sometimes the workers won't work, especially the maintenance workers, who tend to stand around doing nothing even though I'm getting messages that 'items are damaged or broken' - and no way to do the work myself. Keepers sometimes won't feed the animals until I assign them the task of doing it, though this isn't a huge problem as long as I pay attention to my messages and to my animals' happiness levels, and assign a keeper to feed them as soon as I see that one is very hungry. One other problem that might be a glitch was that initially when I started playing, animals would starve or die of thirst even though food and water were available. However, I have since found that giving them a larger and less cluttered enclosure usually keeps this from happening.

I try to put most of the trees and bushes and things around the edge of the enclosure out of the way, and the water in the middle where it is easy for the animal to get to it. There are a few annoying features of the game.

The messages get to be a nuisance, always telling me that my animals and guests are happy - I would rather just know when they are not happy. Also at the end of each month, a monthly summary window comes up which can get annoying as it always interrupts whatever I'm doing at the time. The graphics are okay, in fact I think the graphics are rather cute, especially the animals and objects. The people are not very realistic-looking, too cartoonish and too many people that all look the same. There is a reasonable (though not huge) variety of animals, objects, and guest items to choose from. Managing money can be a challenge (not necessarily a bad thing), as you not only have to watch your current balance, but also be aware of what you are spending on monthly expenses like staff salaries and research expenses, or you can find yourself in the red at the end of the month when you have to pay up. Overall, it is not quite up to the quality of Zoo Tycoon (I have versions 1 and 2 of Z.T.).

However, it does allow a much closer view of the animals and people than in Zoo Tycoon 1, and when an animal is unhappy it is usually more specific about its needs than in Zoo Tycoon 2. The scenarios are usually interesting and do get progressively more challenging, especially after the tutorial levels. The game is not perfect, and I can see why some people might not like it, but I do enjoy it and I think it is worth a better score than what it has gotten so far. I downloaded both this one and the Marine Park Empire games and I'm afraid, after trying to play both of them, I had to stop, dissatisfied.

The game simply isn't as intuitive as it could be, the controls are difficult to navigate, the game doesn't allow you to do things you need to do and won't give any explanation as to why. I couldn't get past the tutorial because of the lack of information - working on the goals and the game wouldn't allow me to complete the final goal, though I don't know why. If the final goal wasn't meant to be completed in order to teach me 'something' later, at least they could have shared that information. All this being said, I wouldn't recommend a download of this game or Marine Park Empire, but I DO recommend Restaurant Empire.

If the makers of this game would fix it so it's easier to play with better controls and information, I'd give it another chance.

Between crashing, half the added animals(including literally all the marine animals) just not working (as in you can see them and place them but they have no animations they are like objects), the game crashes anytime i try to make a tank and the original marine animals are missing along with some of the games original animals. If your going to put your own content into an existing game at least offer the original game separate although I love some of the added animals and animations that come along but the bugs are just so bad that im probably not going to keep it. You could have put in a few opening and loading screen songs. When i heard the Jurassic park music i was initially really excited and thought that was a great addition.until that was the only song that played over and over!!! Having the game just crash and going back in and out of the main screen and different zoos it got super old super quick. I am experiencing some issues while playing. I installed the game and got the password in no problems.

But when I’m playing some of the locations on the map are appearing as white squares, same thing happens in the menus for animals and construction and biomes. Also, when i place some of the animals they spawn completely still, they don’t move or do anything. Some of them have missing textures too. And sometimes they won’t even appear at all.

I would like to know how to fix this because I would love to play my childhood game again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I’m incorrect somewhere on this, but I noticed this version is the ultimate collection containing all the expansion packs. It may just be unrelated issues im having with the game, but there are less maps and features available than I remember being available with packs like african adventure or extinct animals. Hope that made sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
